Rogers Red World Elite MasterCard Review

Updated on Aug 29, 2026: Starting November 18, 2026, the Rogers Red World Elite MasterCard terms will undergo major changes:

• Elimination of the 1.5x cash-back redemption value on "eligible Rogers purchases." (No more effortless 3% cash back).
• Earn 5% cash back on "eligible Rogers purchases." 
• Removal of the 5-day "Roam Like Home" benefit. It changes to an annual "Roaming Credit" for eligible Rogers mobile roaming services. (Worth $75 per calendar year, effective January 12, 2027).
• Updated travel insurance benefits (effective November 18, 2026). Out-of-province medical coverage for those under 64 increases from 10 to 15 days. Trip Cancellation, Trip Interruption, and Trip Delay coverages are canceled. Rental car insurance terms are adjusted.

Honestly, the insurance changes are minor since I never use this card for travel insurance anyway. However, losing that 1.5x redemption bonus is definitely bad news.

If you're already a Rogers, Fido, Shaw or Comwave eligible customer, the Rogers Red World Elite MasterCard isn't just a good credit card — it's essentially a no-brainer addition to your wallet. 

Rogers Red Mastercards are Getting Tiered Cash Back Rates Starting August 2026

Rogers Bank is making a notable change to its Rogers Red Mastercard lineup. Starting August 4, 2026, the bank will introduce tiered cash back earn rates based on annual spending — meaning how much you earn per dollar spent will depend on how much you've charged to your card each year. If you hold a Rogers Red Mastercard, a Rogers Red World Mastercard, or a Rogers Red World Elite Mastercard, this change affects you.

When you book travel with Expedia using Rogers Bank MasterCard, you will get a 30-day Roam Like Home International Travel Pass and 2X cash back on your booking.

Upcoming Changes to Rogers WEMC

Effective June 2, 2020, Rogers Bank will be making some changes to your Rogers World Elite Mastercard Account. From my point of view, this is a really bad news!

You will earn:

• 3% in cash back rewards on all your eligible purchases made in U.S. dollars (previously 4% on all eligible purchases made in any foreign currency)
• 1.5% in cash back rewards on all other eligible purchases (previously 2% on Rogers products and services and 1.75% on all other eligible purchases)

Plus, your Rogers World Elite Mastercard will continue to provide:

Besides, a new requirement for your Rogers WEMC: Starting June 2, 2020, Rogers World Elite Mastercard accounts must have an annual minimum spend (i.e. the total of Purchases made,
less any Purchase returns) of at least $15,000 posted to the Account during each annual review period in order to maintain your eligibility for the Account. An annual review period commences on August 1st of a year and ends on July 31st of the following year, with the first annual review period commencing on August 1, 2020. If you have not maintained the annual minimum spend during an annual review period, we reserve the right to switch the Account to another Rogers Bank credit card product on or after November 1st in the next ensuing annual review period without any impact to the rewards earned up to the date of the switch. This means that you may lose the insurance coverages and other premium benefits that are exclusive to the Rogers World Elite Mastercard account and that you will be switched to the new card's Rewards program. Accounts open for less than 18 months prior to the end of any annual review period will not need to meet the annual minimum spend requirement for that annual review period. You will retain the full value of your Rewards earned prior to June 2, 2020.

If you are not a Rogers Platinum MC user, I assume you should be able to apply it in Jun 2018 (maybe also get some welcome bonus)...

BTW, up to now, no reported upgrade offer for Fido MC user. I think Fido MC user can call Rogers Bank and ask for upgrade to this Rogers WEMC.

Important changes about Rogers/Fido MasterCard

Starting May 23, 2018, the following changes will automatically apply to the Rogers Platinum Mastercard and the Fido Mastercard.

So, Rogers MC will be the same as Fido MasterCard. Their cash back will drop to 1.25% for normal purchases, and actual cash back on foreign purchase will drop from 1.5% to 0.5%.

Fido MasterCard Introduction

Rogers Bank is offering a new MasterCard, Fido MasterCard. It is no annual fee. You can earn 4% unlimited "cash back" rewards on all purchases in a foreign currency – from international websites to anywhere you travel abroad plus 1.5% unlimited cash back rewards on all purchases in Canadian dollars.

You can redeem your cash back rewards towards Fido goodies like:

• a new phone
• your monthly bill
• accessories
• online purchases in fido.ca

You can also get up to $50 in cash back rewards as a welcome bonus: $25 on your first purchase. Plus $25 when you register your Fido bill for pre-authorized payments.

BTW, there is also some changes on Rogers Platinum MasterCard. Starting August 17 you will earn 4% cash back rewards on all your purchases made in a foreign currency – whether your purchase is made online or while travelling overseas. Sounds pretty good, right? BUT, starting October 19, 2016, the Rogers Platinum MasterCard will charge a 2.5% foreign currency transaction fee. So, the actual return for Rogers Platinum MasterCard on foreign currency purchases will decrease from 1.75% to 1.5% after Oct 19.

Rogers Platinum MasterCard: $100 welcome bonus

Expiry: Feb 29, 2016

Before Feb 29, if you apply for the Rogers Platinum MasterCard in the Rogers Store, you can get $100 welcome bonus (the best offer for this card so far). This is exclusive in-store offer. If you apply online, you can only get $35 welcome bonus.

Rogers Platinum MasterCard:

• Annual fee $29, waived for the 1st year 
• You will never have to pay an annual fee as long as your Rogers bill is set up as a pre-authorized payment
• Earn 1.75% cash back on all your purchases everywhere MasterCard is accepted (including Costco)
• No foreign transaction fees 
• No insurances...

Therefore, if you are using Rogers/Fido/chatr services, this is a great credit card for you (no annual fee, 1.75% return, no foreign transaction fee) + $100 welcome bonus. It is better than the Chase Amazon Visa if you travel outside of Canada.

Rogers: Saving $75 when you get a Rogers First Rewards MasterCard

The Rogers First Rewards MasterCard is from Rogers Bank, which can give you the fastest way to earn Rogers First Rewards points:

• No annual fee 
• Get 2 Rogers First Rewards points for every dollar you spend on your card (it is 2% rewards if you redeem the points correctly)
• Earn up to a total of 4 points per dollar on your Rogers bill when you pay it with the card
• Voted #1 Retail Rewards Card by MoneySense magazine (FYI, Rogers is the owner of MoneySense...)
