If you've been keeping an eye on your Walmart app lately, you may have noticed something new: Walmart+, the retailer's paid membership program, is now officially available in Canada. Think of it as Walmart's answer to Amazon Prime — a bundle of perks designed to make your shopping faster, cheaper, and more convenient. Here's everything you need to know.
Walmart+ packs three core benefits into a single membership:
1. Unlimited Same-Day Delivery: Place your order before 4 PM, and qualifying orders from your local Walmart store can arrive at your door the same day. No waiting, no extra trip to the store — just order and relax.
2. Free Shipping With No Minimum Order: This one is a game-changer for online shoppers. Eligible items — those sold and shipped directly by Walmart, or fulfilled by Walmart on behalf of Marketplace Sellers — ship free with zero minimum spend. Look for the unique badge on product pages to identify eligible items. A few exceptions apply, including remote areas, items over 150 lbs, and scheduled delivery orders from stores.
3. Crave Streaming: Active Walmart+ members get Crave Standard With Ads at no extra cost. To activate it, just head to your Membership Page and click "Get Crave." Keep in mind that if you cancel Walmart+, your Crave access ends immediately.
Walmart+ offers two straightforward plans:
- Monthly: $8.97/month + tax
- Annual: $89/year + tax
The annual plan works out to roughly $7.42/month — a noticeable saving compared to paying month by month. You can switch between plans at any time; the change takes effect at the end of your current billing cycle. In addition, if you use the Walmart Rewards Mastercard or the Walmart Rewards World Mastercard to pay for your membership subscription, you can save 3 or 6 months of membership fees per year.
Not ready to commit? Walmart+ offers a 30-day free trial, which includes full access to Crave at no charge. Just note that once the trial ends, the Crave benefit ends with it.
If you were already a Walmart Delivery Pass subscriber, Walmart has made the transition seamless — no action required on your end. Your account has been automatically upgraded to Walmart+, with your existing price, renewal date, and term length unchanged. Your original benefits carry over, and the new Walmart+ perks are simply added on top.
Walmart+ membership makes sense for you if:
- You shop at Walmart online regularly — even two or three orders a month can quickly offset the $8.97 monthly fee through saved delivery and shipping costs.
- You've been paying for Crave separately. At $8.97/month, Walmart+ essentially gives you free shipping and a Crave subscription bundled together.
- You have a busy schedule and love the convenience of same-day grocery or household delivery.
You might skip it if:
- You mostly shop in-store and rarely order online.
- Your typical Walmart orders already qualify for the free scheduled delivery (over $35) without a membership.
- You're already heavily invested in a competing loyalty ecosystem and rarely shop at Walmart.
From my point of view, at $89 a year, Walmart+ is a genuinely compelling value for Canadian households that shop at Walmart with any regularity. The combination of unlimited same-day delivery, no-minimum-order free shipping, and a Crave subscription bundled in makes it easy to get your money's worth — especially if you'd be paying for Crave anyway.
